No matter what I eat, unless its just a bite and even then sometimes as well, I get a strong ache in my shoulder. Sometimes it is so bad that my mobility is reduced to nothing. I have been diagnosed with Crohn’s but do not take any medication and only have occasional flareups. Thanks in advance!

I don’t know if this is any help at all, but i get “brain freeze” in my shoulder! It’s the front part of my shoulder. Have you tried any over the counter meds like Tylenol, aspirin, Advil, or Aleve? Take the maximum dose of any of them. (You can buy the generic of any of them.)
If they don’t work, and/or if the pain is still there tomorrow, get to a doctor. That shouldn’t be happening.
Good luck, hon.
I suggest you use your insurance.
You’d be better off seeing a doctor rather than asking people on here, you’ll get all kinds of wacked-out answers which aren’t based on any real knowledge or experience. If you weren’t occasionally having the mobility problems then I’d say it’s not something to worry about, but that makes it serious and worthy of a doctor’s visit. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
this is going to sound silly, but it could be related to your gallbladder… I know… I know.. the gallbladder is located under the right ribcage… and usually the pain is there.. but not always.. the only reason I say this is because you mentioned that this happens when you eat.. (Do you have more pain when the meal is fattier)?
When I had my gallbladder removed… I had severe pain in my left shoulder… it was awful…
Hey there..
As I see it, there are two possibilities. But let me tell you, without some tests nothing is certain.
First, as you have Crohn’s disease, you might have some inflammation of either the small bowel in left side of abdomen or left turn of large bowel it self. It may irritate the lower part of diaphragm, that is the muscle separating chest from abdomen. Now the nerve supply of the left shoulder is shared with this muscle. This may cause , what is called as “referred pain” to the shoulder due to the irritation of diaphragm.
By the same mechanism, when you eat , the gas in the stomach gets distended. Some people have more gas in the upper part of the stomach than others. This bubble of stomach containing gas is in direct contact with the diaphragm. That is why after a full diet, or belching you feel kind of chest pain near heart. This bubble may be the reason of diaphragm irritation and also the shoulder pain.
However, my friend, the diagnosis is impossible without an expert review of your condition. I know you have some problem with your insurance. You may try going to an E.R., they don’t need any insurance. It is federal law that they must stabilize your condition before shifting you away from the hospital.
I hope it helps. Best luck!
