There should be SEVERE neck pain. The vertebra of your neck have been traumatized with a bit of what sounds like arthritis developing–especially in the C5-6 gap.
No headaches?
Your doctor should have told you after the X-rays were read that you need to be very careful. If you should jar your head or back just the right way you could be paraplegic for the rest of your life. Did he provide or prescribe a neck collar? any therapy to relax inflammation of the muscles and tendons?
The pressure on the nerves branching off this area of your spinal cord will cause intense pain in your sholders, arms, and hands. Possibly with numbing unless you do something.
Ibuprofen will help reduce the inflammation a little, as well as help with pain management. Heat therapy might help relax the muscles and tendons of your neck, as well as rest and good posture.
Surgery probably wouldn’t help.
If and when the pain subsides, you might consider a reputable chiropractor. Do not have anything done, though, unless he/she does x-rays of your neck area and sees what is at issue. Perhaps the first week or two of therapy would be ultrasound only.
Move slowly. Especially while turning your head. No physical sports (as IF!)
Best wishes!
