After being in an immbolizer/sling for three weeks after dislocating shoulder, are sharp pains through the arm, and elbow muscle atrophy normal? Haven’t started physical therapy yet but afraid to start because of the pain. Please let me know if this is normal three weeks after, or if the pain should be gone.

Yes, all of your symptoms are normal. Please start your physical therapy ASAP so that the atrophy and pain don’t get any worse.
I didn’t dislocate my shoulder, I broke the end of it (had surgery and the immobilizer/sling for three weeks as well). I had the same symptoms and they made me start therapy anyway, made it worse, stopped going after 3 times. Muscle atrophy is normal and that is part of where your pain is coming from. Sharp pains, don’t know. I had that and they told me it was cause I also damaged the joint and it would take time to heal, well it took about 6 months for them to go away. Use it slowly, each day stretch it a little more to get range back if the doctor says it’s okay. Also, a can of soup is a good starter weight to get the muscle to build back up. My therapist showed me that, I just did it not quite so forcefully as they wanted me too.
Did you see the doctor and check it after you get an accident? Although you didn’t break it, dislocated shoulder can be a serious problem. I suggest you to go and start the right way of physical therapy for this case even you are in pain, please don’t just do it yourself.
