Pain In My Throwing Shoulder…tendonitis Or Torn Ucl?

November 9th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Pain

For the last year i have been experiencing acute pains in the back part of my shoulder whenever i pulled it back. yet it would only hurt when i was stretching, etc, and never when i was actually pitching. I was checked out by the school trainer and he said it might be just minor inflammation from throwing too much (150-200 pitch bullpen sessions 2/3 times a week, apparently not too healthy) but i haven’t pitched for the last two months ,and my shoulder still hurts like hell. could it be a partially torn UCL or am i overreacting?
Moreover, nowadays, when i rotate my arm fully, it makes a ‘crick’ing sound, kinda like cartilage on cartilage. any idea what thats about?

Could be anything from a bone spur to tendonitis, to something partial torn (Labrum, rotator cuff, etc.)
The best bet is to get it checked out by a professional doctor. I’m not a doctor but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last week while on vacation.

Your description sounds a little bit like my injury, except that my pain was while rotating forward. My Labrum was torn pretty bad. The only definite way to find out is to go to a specialist and let them send you for an MRI
