I have woke up the last three days with terrible lower sciaticas, I have tried tylenol and a heating pad. But the pain won’t go away. It stays with me all day. What can I or should I do? Any ideas for me? Please help… I have too much to do this weekend, no time for annoying pain! Oh yeah I forgot to mention I had a hystorectomy so I know it doen’t have to do with a period.

I am a massage therapist… you want ICE not heat! the muscles are inflamed already and heat calls more inflammation to the area. lay on your back and try to cross your knee over your opposite hip, keeping your shoulders on the floor. the muscle you are stretching is your quadratus lumborum (low back, above hips)
um… naperproxin… i don’t know if that’s the correct spelling, but i know its great for sciaticas, period related sciaticas, and inflammation too.
heating pad will help too… i believe you have to have a prescription to get it though. my husband got some for when he hurt his back, his pain was to too high for it to work but it does WONDERS for me…. i use them ONLY when i have unbearable sciatica. (like once or twice a year)

Walking is good for it. Getting blood flow to your back from light exercise. Get on your hands and knees and rock back and forth. That is called a “Gaylord exercise” and can help spread the vertebrae and give relief to your compressed disk.
I personally would be heading off to the Doctor ASAP .
It’s probably not very serious , Something that a few trips to a PT ( Physiotherapist ) should be able to fix ?
Stay away from a Chiropractor unless your Doctor suggests you visit one .
Severe sciatica that lasts for more than a few days really needs a MD’s opinion .
Do NOT do what I did and ignore it for 3 Weeks , I now have Chronic Back pain that probably would have NOT have occurred if I went to a Doctor within the first week .
Try deep heat, works wonders for me.
stretch, get a good massage
It could possibly be a urinary or kidney infection, and sometimes there are no other symptoms. Start taking a vitamin c supplement for a few days, but see your physician as soon as possible.
If you believe it is a muscle problem or injury, it could be due to weak abdominal muscles. (Yes abdominal muscles do help to align your spine.) Research “Core Exercises” on the internet — I guarantee they will work wonders in most instances.
