Intense Pain In Neck From Shoulder Shrug Workout?

November 2nd, 2009 · 2 Comments · Pain

Today, I was doing shoulder shrug with dumb bells about 90 pounds each hand. My friend told me to try titlting my head upward while doing this. WHen I tried it that way, I had Instant extreme pain.
About 4 hours after the fact rang of motion is limited by extreme pain….. I can turn my head left and right, but not quickly other wise it hurts, I can not tilt my head at all to the rear, I can tilt it a little to the front. Getting up out of seats, or bed can be very painful. Lying in Bed in certain positions is very very painful, enough to make me take a great deep breath. while sitting down, i feel tension, but no pain as long as I dont move my head too much.

okay, well my older brother is a varsity football captain, and he did like the same thing.. hes kinda stupid at times and so my mom took him to the emergency room and they told him to take some like ibuprofen and don’t do any sports for about a week or so and that’s exactly what he did and he felt fine within a week and a half or so.

Hi Jason. At the very least you may have a “Spasmodic Torticollis”. At the extreme, you may have a serious intervertebral disc injury.
Either way, a prompt evaluation by your family Chiropractor is a good idea.
    Best wishes and good luck.
