for about 4 days i have been having pains in my neck. it is only on the right side, and my right shoulder. It starts to hurt a lot when i try to swallow anything, water, food. It hurts a lot. I don’t know what to do. It kind of feels like a pulled muscle but i have not done anything that could have pulled it. Taking Advil does not help with the pain either. does anyone have any idea what could be up. Also the pain in my neck is making a massive headache through my entire right side like a migraine or something. I need answers

See a doctor! I don’t want to freak you out, but neck pain w/ really bad headache can be due to a range of causes, some of which are pretty bad. It might just be muscles spasms in which case gradually increasing movement might help. The thing is you won’t be able to figure it out on your own. Also, you could have pulled it in your sleep.
I get that one too..gee, think we are on the computer too much!! It’s always on my right side, sometimes the back right side of my neck goes numb on the skin area, it feels awful, but the pain doesn’t go away. I have had it for a week at a time, then it settles down and goes away.
I saw my doctor, he said it’s like a pulled muscle, but that WE computer people have to start moving our necks around more when we sit for hours on these things. You’ll notice yourself leaning to the left if you take notice of how you end up sitting.
It’s inflamed your glands by the sounds of it..
the swallowing thing..
See the doctor if it doesn’t go away..
I bought a neck thing.. one of those whip lash things from a drug store and stuck that on my neck for a week and it helped a lot. Made me keep my head up straight.
take care.
It appears you have a pretty good inflammatory process in action. When there is no known cause of the symptoms, would indicate a chronic state becomiung acute. The muscle spasm being sufficient to allow compression of a nerve root. Creating pain when touched.
There are a few considerations here. There could be a herniated disc, a disc being squeezed to one side to make contact with the nerve root. Or, totally the result of a muscle spasm pulling the vertebral bodies out of position. Sufficiently to make contact with the nerve root.
Needless to say, an x-ray would be advisable to determine which factor is involved. Then appropriate treatment initiated.
Needless to say, you do not include your age. This seems to be a common feature of most complaints in this site. It can be very important in making some educated determinations.
Would suggest a visit to a doctor of Chiropractic if you want early relief from the symptoms.
