I Have Pain Between My Shoulder Blades, Any Advice?

November 1st, 2009 · 1 Comment · Pain

I’ve been having this for over a year now, intermittently. The pain is really sharp and takes by breath away. It is virtually at the level where my bra fastens and sometimes hurts more to the left and anothr day hurts more to the right.Carrying a bag on one shoulder aggravates it but I don’t think that ’s the cause. Sitting at the computer for a long time also aggravates it. I wish I could pinpoint the actual cause. I’ve had acupuncture once which helped for a couple of weeks then it came back. Ibuprofen and cold packs help short term also.
Could this be a symptom of anything serious? I haven’t seen my G.P. yet.

It could be any number of things but sounds most like a muscle related issue. As long as you don’t have any numbness or tingling in your arms you probably don’t need to rush to the docs. It’s probably a postural and muscle weakness related injury that is aggravated by certain things. First off (don’t roll your eyes) if it hurts, don’t do it, secondly you need to be doing some scapular (shoulder blade) strengthening exercises which really should be taught to you by a Physical Therapist. This type of pain can usually be eliminated by addressing the underlying weaknesses.
