How Do I Talk To My Doctor About The Severity Of My Pain?

November 16th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Pain

I have had neck problems for almost 10 years. pain in the joints, pain under my shoulder blades, all ranging from burning to dull and achy. I can feel the nerves that runm down the backs of my arms and legs when I stretch my beck. I have had CT, MRI, Xrays, bloos tests and they are finding nothing wrong with me. Since they are finding nothing, they are not treating my pain. What should I say?

    i keep a “pain journal”
i just use a daily planner and for each day i write down my pain, where, what kind of pain, etc. I also rate my pain for each day and put it with the other information. If you have more specific details and what not, maybe the doctor might find something not already mentioned…

Sounds like the medical doctors have appropriately not started treating you for something they cannot help.
Consider chiropractic/osteopathic/or even physical therapy to improve the function and strength of your neck and back. This is likely a fuctional problem they can help you with..since all of the static position exams (xray, mri, ct) have shown nothing.
Also, having soo much pain, consider poor sleep, diet, lack of exercise, vitamin/mineral defieciency to help you.

You might have fibromyalgia. It’s hard to diagnose. Look it up and see if the symptoms match yours and if they do you may want to ask your doctor about it.
