Horrible Pain In Shoulder?

October 14th, 2009 · 4 Comments · Pain

a little over a week ago i woke up with a sore neck. i figured i slept on it wrong. the neck pain lasted a couple of days. and the pain moved down to my shoulder. as the days go by it seems to be getting worse, not better. my shoulder hurts so bad. it aches and throbs. seems to spasm sometimes. it feels like the muscle is so tight. and feels like i have a 50 pound weight on my shoulder. it hurts to lift my arm. or even move it. i get shooting pains if i move or lift a certain way. the pain seems to get a lot worse at night. i’ve been treating it with icy hot patches and hot packs. taking ibuprofen and tylenol. and it doesn’t seem to be helping. my husband is telling me to go to the doctor. but im stubborn and don’t want to waste my time and money if all they are going to tell me is to continue what im doing and rest my shoulder. by the way….i don’t remember doing anything to injure my shoulder. anyone have any idea what could be going on with me?

I would suggest using Ibuprophen, starting off with taking 2 (250mg) at first and then as often as it says you’re allowed to take it to help reduce the swelling. Sounds like a possible pinched nerve. Rest and the Ibuprophen or other anti-inflammatory.

It could be dangerious your husband is right. You should go see your doctor. Considering you had pain in your neck and then it moved to your shoulder. And the pain occationally shoots down your arm it could be bone related.
If you don’t want to go to the docter then just try Advil that seems to help me with my soreness.

I had similar discomfort in my shoulder a few weeks ago. I decided to get a massge it really helped the pain was gone in 24 hours.

One of three things here they are
    1. It is a pulled muscle that is sending signals down to your arm ( not serious at all it will heal )
    2. It is a heart problem ( If you have pain in your LEFT shoulder, neck, arm or abdomen while your heart is racing or beating fast or if you are short of breath with the above and you feel like someone is sitting on your chest drop what you’re doing and dial ‘ 911 ‘ and get a paramedic there it is a heart attack
    3. You may have a clot in your neck, arm or shoulder ( Unlikely but you never can be too careful ) ( if you believe you do, don’t wait it can travel to your heart )
