i dislocated my shoulder yesterday without that much pain. I went to the ER and they popped it back in after giving me morphine. today it is pretty sore but i can shrug and move it a little with my sling on. I’m supposed to go to an orthopedist in 1 week and keep my sling on til then. My question is how long will it be before i can return to the field?

Once you’ve had a dislocated shoulder your joint may become unstable and be prone to repeat dislocations.
If you’ve experienced a fairly simple shoulder dislocation without major nerve or tissue damage, your shoulder joint likely will return to a near-normal or fully normal condition. But trying to resume activity too soon after shoulder dislocation may cause you to injure your shoulder joint or to dislocate it again.
Only after a Doctor’s evaluation will you have a clue whether or not surgery will be required and the expected recovery/ rehabilitation time.
Injury without surgery being needed I would guess 3-4 weeks, with surgery 3-4 months.
GOOD LUCK!
your shoulder is more likely to dislocate within 2 weeks of having been dislocated. In fact it is quite easy to re-dislocate your shoulder within 2 weeks.
You should have it in a collar and cuff initially. And probably not play lacross for 6 weeks.
