It is likely either a pinched nerve or a pulled muscle.
Either one may repair itself in a few days, if it continues, by all means see a dr. I had the same thing, saw a chiropractor and they fixed me right up and when it happens, I just go see them.

OK you need to describe the pain first.
Is the pain a burning pain - think nerve entrapment
Is the pain strong but dull and achy? - Think muscle spasm.
Is the pain deep and usually felt after meals (especially fatty ones)- think gall bladder (it refers to the right shoulder). More than likely, it is not this, because gall bladder does not usually effect the upper arm.
If it is the first 2, I would recommend going to the chiropractor. More than likely, you also have a misalignment in your spine or shoulder. This is a classical presentation for a misalignment. The pain is a compensation of the muscles and ligaments for the misaligned joint.
I have seen patients that presented with symptoms exactly like yours and after 1 adjustment they were 70-90% better.
Good Luck with this.
