For the past month I have been experiencing numbness under my left breast(by ribcage) and an annoying pain near/under my left shoulder blade on my back. This mostly occurs at night time and especially while I am laying down, with exception to the numbness under my breast which sometimes occurs during the day. I have tried icepacks and heating pads. The heating pad works a little for the shoulder blade problem, but not the numbness. I also find it harder to breath during this time. Help, I am losing sleep over this uncomfortableness!! I checked with my Dr. a few weeks ago and he said he thinks its just because I am growing. Has anyone out there gone through this before?

Pain near your shoulder blade could be a gall bladder problem but that is just one of the things it ‘could’ be. I had gall stones with my third pregnancy and although I didn’t have the usual pain under my shoulder blade that they say is normal for gall stones, I did have a terrible pain in my chest and it would only subside after I vomitted. They scheduled me to have my gall bladder removed after I had the baby.
With this pregnancy, however, I have had a sharp pain under my left breast for almost three weeks now and it really hurts when I lay on my left side. I even went to the e.r. because I woke up one morning with the chest pain and both my hands were numb. They didn’t find anything serious and my family doc diagnosed it as acid reflux and possibly a hernia. I am on Prevacid but it still doesn’t seem to help the chest pain, so it may just be a nerve thing or some other strange pain that comes with pregnancy and goes away after the baby is born.
I would make an appointment with your primary care doctor and see if he would have any suggestions or want to check you out more thoroughly. I hope you find an answer and relief from your pain!!
I had a lot of pain under my shoulder blade and I got a prenatal massage and it all but disappeared. Make sure you ask if they have the body pillow for pregnant women because its not worth the money if you have to lay on your side the whole hour. Don’t know about the breast numbness but it sounds like your lungs are getting compressed from the size of your uterus pushing up, which is normal – and creates the breathlessness. I know they say the baby can sit on nerves and stuff – maybe some prenatal yoga stretches would help move baby to a better position. You can get a video or take a class. I have been doing that my whole pregnancy and its a great way to meet other pregnant moms and get advice from a live person, assuming there is a good teacher around where you live.
Pain can be “referred”. That means a problem could be occuring other than your back – - I am thinking since you have pain under your left breast and the left side of your back – it is related to your stomach. DO you have an increased heartburn? reflux?
your baby is probably just laying on a nerve. pregnancy can get pretty painful, my last 2 weeks of my last pregnancy I tore a ligament in my shoulder just reaching for my hairspray under my bathroom sink. and it was so painful, and I couldn’t take anything, except percocet which didn’t help at all. maybe once he/she moves down a little you’ll better
